Create beautiful, elegant fine-silver jewelry pieces with Art Clay Silver and abalone shell inlay. This innovative technique is deceptively simple to learn, but produces amazing finished pieces. With Art Clay Silver, anyone can create fine-silver jewelry without traditional metalsmithing tools or experience. All levels are welcome, but good eyesight or magnification is needed.

A weekend at John C. Campbell Folkschool is the ultimate gift to yourself!  You will stay on campus and eat in the communal dining hall, emersing yourself in the experience. Classes are held in the morning and afternoon, with additional activites available in the evenings.

Instructor will provide all the tools and equipment necessary for the projects. The materials fee includes the use of tools, equipment as well as a kit of consumable materials such as Art Clay Silver and abalone shell.

Students bring the following items:
  • Fine paint brushes. Brushes may be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn’s or Dick Blicks. Expect to pay between $3 to $5 per brush for good brushes. (Unless you catch a sale!) Look for brushes with Golden Taklon* bristles (synthetic yellow). The following shapes and sizes are good choices.
    • Round (bristle length approx 1/2”) #10/0, #0, #1
    • Flat sizes #2, #4
  • Magnifying Visor.
  • Exacto Knife with fresh blade
  • Scissors, tape and Sharpie
  • Pens, pencils, paper
  • Metal Clay tools if you have them (not required)
