This piece, entitled "Staying the Night at a Mountain Temple" is just the first of what I hope will be an ongoing series of poetry boxes.     The Chinese on the inside of the lid is the original text of the poem.  The tiny handmade book inside the box contains the English translation, which I transcribed with permission from the translator, Mark Alexander.   Here is the translation, for your enjoyment.

Staying the Night at a Mountain Temple
by Li Bai

The high tower is a hundred feet tall,
From here one's hand could pluck the stars.
I do not dare to speak in a loud voice,
I fear to disturb the people in heaven.

A variation of this piece, with a slightly different box clasp, is available at Turning Leaf Gallery in Blue Ridge, GA
