Champleve' Enameling is the process of creating impressions in metal, and filling those impressions with enamels.  This two day, hands-on workshop will focus on creating silver clay pieces suitable for champleve' enameling, applying the enamels to achieve shaded effects, and finishing the piece to create a smooth, continuous surface. 

The class fee includes the use of tools and equipment necessary for the project in class. Consumable materials, such as Art Clay Silver will be purchased separately.  

No prior metal clay or enameling experience is required for this class.  All levels welcome.

In order to become a certified instructor, you must successfully complete the Level One Certification course. This course is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of Art Clay. The curriculum consists of seven different projects and covers a wide variety of techniques. Some of the techniques include use of organic forms, creating flat and round-shank rings, addition and firing of gemstones, creating a mirror finish, and much more. This course provides general and technical information, as well as some helpful teaching guidelines.

Upon successful completion of this course, you are entitled to:

  1. 35% discount on Art Clay Silver Series products
  2. Teach Art Clay Introductory classes
  3. Take the Senior Level Certification Course

I limit the class size to four students to ensure I can give everyone ample one-on-one attention. 

I will provide all the tools and equipment necessary for the projects. The registration fee includes the use of tools, equipment as well as a kit of consumable materials such as Art Clay Silver. The fee also includes an instruction book that will be yours to keep.

Students should bring the following items:

  • Fine paint brushes. Brushes may be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn’s or Dick Blicks. Expect to pay between $3 to $5 per brush for good brushes. (Unless you catch a sale!) Look for brushes with Golden Taklon bristles (synthetic yellow). The following shapes and sizes are good choices.
    • Round (bristle length approx 1/2”) #10/0, #0, #1
    • Flat sizes #2, #4
  • Magnifying Visor if you have one.
  • Pens, pencils, paper for taking notes
  • Lunch, beverage and/or snacks for each day

This course is intended for students who have already completed the Rio Rewards certification or the PMC Connection Level 2 certification. The curriculum consists of three different projects designed to bridge the gap between PMC and ACS, and provide knowledge and skill with ACS specific materials and products.

Upon successful completion of this course, you are entitled to:

  1. 35% discount on Art Clay Silver Series products
  2. Teach Art Clay Introductory classes
  3. Take the Senior Level Certification Course

I limit the class size 6 to ensure I can give each student ample one-on-one attention. 

I will provide all the tools and equipment necessary for the projects. The registration fee includes the use of tools, equipment as well as a kit of consumable materials such as Art Clay Silver. The fee also includes an intruction book that will be yours to keep.

Students should bring the following items:

  • Proof of PMC Certification (Rio Rewards certificate or PMC Connection Level 2 certificate)
  • A selection of your completed metal clay work for evaluation. This can include your PMC certification projects as well as pieces completed out of class.

This is a two day workshop. On the first day you will create a pendant using innovative Art Clay Copper. Unlike other base metal clays, Art Clay Copper does not require the use of carbon or long firing times. We will cover construction techniques, firing and preparing for enameling. On the second day, we will enamel the pieces made during the first day of the class. We will cover enamel application techniques, counter–enameling and shading.

No prior metal clay or enameling experience is required for this class. All levels welcome.

Please join us in Pam East's Studio for a truly unique opportunity! Internationally reknown British artist, Carol Douglas  will be visiting to teach a two day workshop in sculpting creature and character faces in copper clay.  

Myth, legend and spirit come together as you create your own creatures and characters in our two day workshop. Concepts will include the development and creation of a believable creature/character, creating a mood, character building, and finding your own story.  Through this process you will also learn how to prepare Art Clay Copper for sculpting, ways of producing different effects and characteristics, refining pieces, firing techniques and kiln management, as well as finishing and patinas.

This is an exciting and dynamic hands-on class!  As well as learning how to handle and fire Art Clay Copper, you will be gaining a powerful new skill set that can also be applied to bronze and silver.  All materials, including Art Clay Copper, are included in the course fee.  You will have full use of all the necessary tools and equipment in class.   Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!  Space is limited so sign up early!
